Meet Celia Sartor … HOSTS Volunteer

Deciding to become a HOSTS mentor was very natural for me because I have been a teacher for almost 35 years. I thought I’d take the plunge and work with high school students. I am so glad I did. I look forward to continue as a mentor during my retirementTeacher for 35 Years
WGHS HOSTS Mentor

About My Students:

“I have mentored two students; both have been polite and appreciative young men. They come from families who value education and want to see their sons succeed. They are not afraid to learn something new or to ask questions.

Why It Matters:

“Helping these students improve their reading and writing means they can catch up and keep up with other determined students in their classes.

About HOSTS:

HOSTS mentors are everyday people who spend one hour, once a week to accelerate the learning of one high school student. The program, Helping One Student To Succeed (HOSTS), targets motivated students who need help in language arts.

By the end of the ’07 school year, 70% of students improved their reading level by at least one year (e.g., going from 7th to 8th grade level); several of the students’ reading levels increased by two grade levels.

The Willow Glen Foundation, a nonprofit group promoting superior programs and academic excellence in Willow Glen, supports the HOSTS program by recruiting and providing volunteers.
